Both of our community’s wading pools are taking a hit in the mid-year budget cuts announced by the mayor’s office today. The View Ridge wading pool will be closed this summer, and the Dahl Park wading pool will only be open 3 days a week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from noon to 7pm running from June 29 to August 19). The Magnuson wading pool will continue to be open 7 days a week. All community centers and swimming pools will remain open as normal.
Mayor McGinn also scrapped any plans to cut the fire department in the wake of the deadly weekend fire in Fremont. You can see the complete list of cuts here.

If I remember correctly, isn’t Magnuson the smallest of the three listed wading pools? Does it make sense to close the largest one all summer when you know demand exceeds supply?
What kind of money does it take to open the wading pools – chemicals and a lifeguard, right? Couldn’t the community rally to raise funds for chemicals and find volunteers to lifeguard? Don’t schools require community service hours that could be granted for such service?
Very frustrating. We lived at the wading pools when my daughter was younger. In this city, we have such a short window of opportunity to use wading pools each year anyway. It’s hard to believe the city cannot afford to operate them all.
