Have you wondered what’s up with the blighted area of homes along NE 65 Street, just south of Roosevelt High School? A long-simmering issue promises to heat up soon because a development group continues to pursue plans to build a huge office/apartment tower up to 16 stories tall in the area, near the intersection of NE 65th Street and 15th Avenue NE.

The Roosevelt Neighborhood Association has been advocating for a few years for something more low profile in the area.

You can get involved on Wednesday (July 21) when the City Department of Planning and Development will hold a meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the gym of Calavry Church (6801 Roosevelt Way NE). The meeting will go over the proposal by the Roosevelt Development Group (RDG) and will determine the scope of an Environmental Impact Study (EIS), which would be required for such a project.

A similar meeting was held a year ago but the meeting is being done over because of some issues related to how it was recorded, according to neighborhood activists.
