View Ridge “Awesome Apes” going to Global Reading Challenge finals

Out of nearly 350 teams, ten are heading to the city final of the 2011 Global Reading Challenge – including View Ridge team the “Awesome Apes.”

The competition challenges fourth- and fifth-graders to recall information about ten books they’ve been assigned. The teams must answer questions about plot, locations and characters.

The nine teams that the Awesome Apes will be competing against on March 29th at 7 p.m. are:
* “Just Read It” from Adams Elementary School
* “Dood Mons” from BF Day Elementary School
* “Aqua” from Bryant Elementary School
* “Orange Dragons” from Concord International Elementary School
* “Muir’s Master Minds II” from John Muir Elementary School
* “Bulldogs” from Roxhill Elementary School
* “Ice Dodos” from Sanislo Elementary School
* “Silver Falcons” from Thurgood Marshall Elementary School
* “Extreme Readers” from Van Asselt Elementary School

This event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. Parking is available in the Central Library garage for $5 after 5 p.m.

The winning team from the city final will go on to face the top teams from Fraser Valley, British Columbia and Coquitlam, British Columbia on Friday, April 15.
