Woman found dead on quiet Wedgwood street

A woman was found dead on a quiet residential street in Wedgwood Friday at 6:30 a.m., five blocks north of Wedgwood Elementary School.

The woman did not die because of traumatic injuries and investigators have determined her identity, said a spokeswoman for the King County Medical Examiner’s Office. The spokeswoman said the woman’s family has been contacted but the Medical Examiner’s Office is not yet releasing her name.

The woman’s body was found in a “grassy area” in the 9100 block of 27th Avenue NE by a couple walking their dog, said Renee Witt, spokeswoman for Seattle Police. The couple called 911 and medics arrived but pronounced her dead at the scene.

The woman was described as white and in her 30s or 40s. Witt said no traumatic injuries were found and her death had been turned over to the Medical Examiner’s Office for a cause of death investigation.

Late Friday afternoon, only one family was home in the immediate vicinity of where the woman was found. A mother and grandmother who answered the door said they saw no police or medic activity. A worker who had arrived later in the afternoon also was unaware that a body had been found.

On the block where the body was found, no homes face 27th Avenue NE. It’s a pass-through street that runs north and south and only side yards can be seen from that portion of the street. No signs of an investigation were present, but a grassy area at the northeast corner of 27th Avenue NE and NE 91st Street did have trampled grass and tire tracks.

This is horrible! We need to follow up on this and make sure the cause of death doesn't remain unknown.

Any more info on who or how she died? I haven't seen anything in Seattle press that has any more info, and it has been 3 days now.

Hi Jen — I just posted an update, though details are still pretty sketchy. The police and Medical Examiner are not offering much on this so any details are likely to come from family and friends. I'll post more when I know more. It's a sad story, to be sure.

I thank you for reading and will do my best to get a few more details about her life and what happened — without digging too far into her personal life.

I also knew this woman and her family and it is not only extremely sad but shocking news. It is nice that you are reporting this in a sensitive way. She was a very kind soul with a larger than life personality. She made everyone she knew laugh, and I will always remember her for that. She left behind 2 children who will miss her very much. Thanks for not reporting her as just another tragic # in the streets of seattle. We all have ?'s and want answers but let's give her the dignity she deserves. RIP KID!!

Kim – this is not a tabloid. It's unfortunate that you need to turn this neighborhood blog into such a forum. Family members and friends are most likely reading this. Best to keep “insights” of this nature to yourself.
